More than a calculator

LMS is a laytime management system. In addition to providing the basic calculation functions common to all laytime software, LMS also provides access to the statement of fact data for use in other reports and applications. The system includes examples of the types of reports used by our customers. LMS can store its data in Microsoft Access 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server 7 (or greater). This means that the data can be easily integrated with other systems in your business if required.

LMS allows you to define the terms of a charter party within the system and to store the rules for laytime commencement and delays. You can then record multiple movements against this fixed set of rules. LMS automatically generates laytime calculations by applying the rules from the contract, to the statement of fact details for each movement.

This approach saves time because you only need to enter the rules for each charter party once, rather than having to think about the rules every time there is a movement. The rules can be checked by a senior staff member and then locked. Costly errors are reduced by the consistent application of charter party rules regardless of who enters the statement of fact.

Instant access to updates and customisation

LMS is able to upgrade itself by downloading updates via the internet at the click of a button so you will always be sure to have the latest version.

To compliment this feature, the LMS website provides customers with an online “issue register” and tracking system so that any requests for modifications or improvements can be submitted and tracked through to completion by any customer, wherever they are in the world. Once your issue is resolved, an update is posted and you are notified by email. You can then upgrade your copy by clicking on the upgrade button within LMS. These features are not only useful for keeping LMS up to date, we also use them to provide you with customised reports and application features on very short turn around times.

Version 3.0 – The future of Laytime Management

Scheduled for release in November 2006, LMS version 3.0 will incorporate the communication of charter parties, statement of fact data and real-time negotiation of despatch and demurrage within the LMS application. Laytime.net will provide a secure web service to allow laytime related communication between business partners that use LMS.

Laytime.Net will facilitate collaboration by all parties involved in a shipping movement. This will reduce the amount of time spent dealing with laytime transactions. This will be achieved by providing authorised parties (as specified per contract) with access to the charter party details, statement of fact and laytime calculation data the moment it is entered and verified. Additional communication features will also be available to handle online negotiation and acceptance of Laytime statements. Duplicated efforts will be completely eliminated saving everyone time and money.
